Matthew 11:28-30
New International Version
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
When you are suffering from one of the various conditions we mentioned in last week’s blog such as anxiety, frustration, depression, stress, etc. you can be assured that the Lord has the answer and a way to comfort you when there seems to be no hope.
In reading the scripture above, if you are weary and burdened it states that your burden will be light. And that is definitely true. Jesus can take most of the weight off of you during those times (he could take it all but you need to also have a learning experience). He gives you a buoyancy. All you have to do is engage with Him and to share your concerns and he is there to support you.
It is the sentiment in the following prayer, which many are familiar with and I hope touches you.
The Footprints Prayer
One night I had a dream…
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord, and
Across the sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene I noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand; One belonged to me, and the other to the Lord. When the
last scene of my life flashed before us, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I
noticed that many times along the path of my life, There was only one set of
footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
and saddest times in my life
This really bothered me, and I questioned the Lord about it.
“Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
You would walk with me all the way;
But I have noticed that during the
most troublesome times in my life,
There is only one set of footprints.
I don’t understand why in times when I
needed you the most, you should leave me.
The Lord replied, “My precious, precious
child. I love you, and I would never,
never leave you during your times of
trial and suffering.
When you saw only one set of footprints,
It was then that I carried you.
Those words can really hit home. Knowing that there is someone there with your best interest in mind, can really relieve that tension you may experience with various emotions. It’s like having the ultimate big brother. He loves you and wants to have a relationship with you. That is why he created man. He wants to have you in his sphere and to have you praise his name while he takes care of your needs.
All you have to do is commit to the sacrifice of his Son, Jesus Christ, who came to earth and died for your sins. He took on the entirety of man’s sin for eternity and buried those sins with his crucifixion. That clears the slate for all those that claim him as Savior. Then you are taken care of by moving to a place that a human can’t even imagine, “Heaven.”
If you start to read your bible, you will begin to understand who he is, why he sacrificed for you, why he wants a relationship with you and how great your life can be with Him in it.
Look at this statement.
Worry Less, Pray More – by Donna Maltese
A devotional designed to help readers replace worry with prayer.
Quote:
“Prayer is the doorway from worry to peace.”
Worry is something that can only impact you in a negative way. Here is a scripture to analyze. Matthew 6:27 where Jesus asks:
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?”
Worrying is of no value. All it can do is exacerbate the situation. Instead of thinking a scenario is overwhelming and going to defeat you-you need to deal with it head on. We have to use intestinal fortitude. You need to be getting the courage to look at the problem and come up with a solution. Rarely will you find a problem that has you completely stalemated. There are many sources to research the answer to your dilemma.
But you know the best one of all is your Bible. It is a history book of the evolution of the world and Christianity but more than that it is a book to address your concerns and always has the answer. Many people went into writing the bible and God funneled his great wisdom through these people. Not everyone who contributed was perfect but God used them as a vessel to disseminate his information accurately and offer help to so many who need guidance in their daily lives.
I know I keep bringing this point up but it is so important. Scripture has the ability to transform lives and get us through those stormy seas. There are many sources available on how to read the bible and also to get through it in a year. And the lessons you learn will transform you.
Make sure that you have a bible and make it your principal support of knowledge to live your life.
